The Grand Slam tournaments, also called majors, are the four most important annual tennis events.
The Grand Slam itinerary consists of the
- Australian Open in mid January,
- French Open in May and June,
- Wimbledon in July, and
- US Open in August and September.
- The Australian and United States tournaments are played on hard courts, the French on clay, and Wimbledon on grass.
- Wimbledon is the oldest, founded in 1877, followed the US in 1881, the French in 1891, and the Australian in 1905.
Here are the winners list of 2023-24 grand slams:-
a) Australian Open 2024 winners
- Mens’s Singles: Jannik Sinner (Italy) claimed his maiden Grand Slam title, defeating Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling five-set Australian Open final in Melbourne
- Women’s Singles: Aryna Sabalenka defeated Zheng Qinwen (China) in final to win the coveted title.
- Mens’s Doubles: Rohan Bopanna, aged 43, secured his first men’s doubles Grand Slam title at the Australian Open with partner Matthew Ebden. They defeated Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
b) French Open 2023 Winners
- Mens’s Singles: Novak Djokovic defeated Casper Ruud in the final, 7–6, 6–3, 7–5 to win the men’s singles tennis title at the 2023 French Open. It was his third French Open title
- Women’s Singles:Iga Swiatek won the French Open 2023 women’s singles title with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win over Karolina Muchova in the final
c) Wimbledon 2023 winners
- Mens’s Singles:Carlos Alcaraz beat four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to win his maiden title at The Championships.
- Women’s Singles:Marketa Vondrousovabecomes Wimbledon champion, the first unseeded player to do so in the Open Era. She beats last year’s runner-up Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 in the final. Marketa Vonddrousova is the first unseeded player to do so in the Open Era.
d) US Open 2023 Winners
- Men’s Singles:Novak Djokovic won his fourth title at the US Open and 24th Grand Slam title beating Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 in the final.
- Women’s Singles:Coco Gauff capped off her sensational American summer winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open beating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final.
