How to prepare for SBI PO Exam

This article is like a key that can open the door for you to get into SBI. SBI PO is one of the most sought out jobs in India. Lakhs of Students do appear in this exam and only handful get finally selected.
We bring to you some important guidelines which you need to take care in your preparation for SBI PO.

There are Total 3 Phases in Exam:  Prelims, Mains and Interview.

  • Phase 1:

Prelims has 3 sections with sectional cutoff. Sections are Quant, English and Reasoning. There would be 100 questions and time is given is 1 hour. There is  sectional timings. 20 mins each to each section.
Remember that Prelims score is not considered in final selection. Prelims score qualifies candidates for phase 2: Mains Exam.

Some points to score high in prelims:-

A. You need to pick easy questions first from every section. This will help you to qualify sectional cutoff and build your score.

B. Learn the art of leaving tough and time consuming questions for last.

C. Don’t waste time on any question. Time is less so you don’t have that privilege. Learn the art of moving on.

  •  Phase 2:

Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online.
Objective test will have 4 sections: Quant, English, GK and Reasoning with computer aptitude.

The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay).
You need to score high in Mains as Mains marks are considered for interview call and final selection. Sectional timing will be there in mains.
People who score high in mains, are generally those who have a good command on GK. There will be 40 questions in this section. You don’t need to follow plethora of sites and material. Some points for Phase 2 : Mains

A. Reasoning part is generally moderate to tough, so pick easy questions first to score high.

B. Make your GK strong, it is the easiest and high scoring section.


C. To score high in descriptive test, you should have a good command on writing. so practise for it.


D. People who generally score high marks in mains, get selected as PO. as phase 3 weightage is of 50 marks only and mains weightage is of 250 marks.


E. Improve your solving speed for quant part.

  • phase 3:  GE-PI:

Total marks for this phase is 50. 20 marks are allotted to Group exercise and 30 marks for Personal interview.
In group exercise, You will be given a current affairs or generic topic to discuss on or a work-related problem or you will be asked to complete a job.
PI is based on your knowledge about banking sector, economy etc. PI starts with general questions and then go specific.

Final selection is based on : Mains mark + GE PI marks.
